ANDREW MURPHY

Health, Safety and Environment (HSE)

I am a Senior HSE Advisor with practical and strategic experience across FIFO mining, construction, corrections, and military environments. As the sole WHS authority for Kai Rho Contracting, I oversee all WHS systems and contractor compliance for our operations at the Tropicana Gold Mine, as well as across ad hoc construction projects. My work is grounded in formal qualifications, including ICAM Lead Investigator certification and a Master’s in OHS (in progress), which support a strategic, systems-based approach to WHS leadership.

Work

I currently serve as the sole HSE Advisor for Kai Rho Contracting, managing WHS systems and contractor compliance across two key operational fronts:Tropicana Gold Mine (FIFO, WA)
I lead all internal WHS efforts for Kai Rho’s personnel on-site, ensuring compliance with client, legislative, and ISO 45001 standards. My responsibilities span site inductions, safety meetings, risk assessments, ICAM investigations, and continuous improvement of WHS processes.
Ad Hoc Civil & Construction Projects (WA)
I also oversee WHS responsibilities for Kai Rho’s short-term infrastructure and construction projects across regional Western Australia. This includes liaising with project managers, conducting site inspections, developing task-specific SWMS, and ensuring audit readiness under tight timeframes.
With a strong field background and a systems-level approach, I support operational leaders in maintaining safety, efficiency, and compliance in high-risk, high-performance environments.

About

I believe safety leadership only works when it’s earned—on the ground, in high-risk environments where decisions carry real consequences. Before entering health and safety, I spent over a decade in the Australian Army and maximum-security corrections, leading teams through situations where clear communication, procedural discipline, and split-second judgement weren’t optional—they were critical. These experiences shaped my approach: practical, systems-aware, and grounded in a deep understanding of human behaviour under pressure.I eventually formalised my experience through postgraduate study, earning a Graduate Diploma in OHS and currently completing my Master’s through Curtin University. I am also certified in ICAM investigations, training and assessment, and government security operations. Now, as Senior HSE Advisor for Kai Rho Contracting, I oversee WHS strategy and compliance across FIFO mining and regional construction projects in WA. I support crews and leaders alike by designing systems that actually work where it matters most—on the ground.I am based in Perth with my wife and kids, and I’m driven by a simple idea: safety done properly keeps people free to do their best work.
